Primary English: Teaching reading – aiming for expected / GDS at the end of KS2

Ofsted’s English report, published earlier this year, suggested that preparation for SATs often involves asking pupils to sit many practice papers but that this does not always achieve the best results.

In this session we explore a range of purposeful and effective ideas for teaching reading in upper KS2, focusing on the teaching of knowledge and skills rather than completing practice tests.

Delegates will:

· gain a range of ideas and strategies for teaching and embedding the knowledge and skills pupils need in order to achieve well at the end of KS2.
