Finance Staff - Budget Planning for Essex Schools

This course is designed for school finance staff and aims to give an overview of the processes involved in budget planning and monitoring, and to raise awareness of reporting responsibilities both internally and externally.

The course covers different funding sources and explains how to understand the School Block Funding and S251 Statement. We will be focusing on the methods and processes of budgeting, and effective ways of monitoring the budget during the year, including reporting to governors. There will be a demonstration of the Essex LA Budget planning tools and exercises to help embed your understanding.

Please have a copy of your current Schools Block Funding Statement and S251 Statement with you.

There will be a break for lunch at approx. 12 noon.

Learning Outcomes: You will leave this course with an understanding of why school's need a budget, how they are funded and the confidence to prepare & report on the budget with your governing body.
